What remains when we disappear?
Save by default, in the cloud, offline. These days, we store so much in a digital landscape that still holds countless mysteries. What do we want to leave behind when we are no longer here? And how does this ever-growing digital archive affect us?
Prompted by these kinds of questions, Marije Miedema, PhD candidate at the University of Groningen, interviewed 24 visitors at a local grassroots community center—a place where everyone is always welcome to walk in, no matter who you are, where you come from, or where you're going.
Using this material, the collective PLOECH EN EIDE created a series of short monologues exploring the traces a human life leaves behind. Six diverse characters speak about what they wish to carry with them and what they hope to leave behind.
These six stories can be experienced in Bouwurk, the gathering place of Arcadia in Leeuwarden. Inside the structure, two people can listen to each monologue at a time via headphones, while also viewing personal objects from the characters' lives.
Premiere: 29 June, 14:00. From that date onwards, freely accessible every day from 10:00 till 00:00 until August 24.
This event takes place in De Oase within Bouwurk, located at the Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden, Fryslân.
Toekomst van het Verleden (Future of the Past) is a collaboration between PLOECH EN EIDE and the University of Groningen.
